Beverage Pairings For Desserts: Elevating Your Sweet Treats

Desserts and drinks: two of the sweetest things on Earth! While sweet treats of any kind are great, did you know you can optimize flavors by pairing them with the perfect beverage? Today we’ll take a look at tasty beverage pairings for desserts, from white wine and key lime pie to coffee soda and cake.

Coffee Soda and Cinnamon Crumb Cake

If you want a bubbly twist on your favorite coffee, try coffee soda! It pairs well with cinnamon crumb cake, which you can make yourself. Check it out:

You will need:

  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tbsp. cinnamon
  • 2 sticks cold butter, cut into cubes
  • 1 package white cake mix
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 stick butter, melted
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract

Directions:

  • Preheat oven to 350°F.
  • Mix flour, cinnamon and sugars in large bowl.
  • Cut in cold butter with knives until you get coarse crumbs. Set aside.
  • Beat cake mix, egg, vanilla, sour cream, and melted butter in large bowl with mixer on medium speed for one minute.
  • Spread in 13x9-inch baking pan.
  • Sprinkle with topping.
  • Bake 30 minutes, then cool on wire rack.
  • Cut into squares to serve.

Sauvignon Blanc and Key Lime Pie

Savor the sweet yet tart flavors of key lime pie with a crisp sauvignon blanc, either with alcohol or alcohol removed. Here’s a simple key lime pie recipe to try.

You will need:

  • 5 egg yolks, beaten
  • 1 can sweetened condensed milk
  • ½ cup key lime juice
  • 1 prepared graham cracker crust

Directions:

  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees F
  • Combine sweetened condensed milk, egg yolks, and key lime juice in a large bowl; mix well.
  • Pour mixture into the unbaked graham cracker crust.
  • Bake for 15 minutes.
  • Cool completely, then slice.

Prosecco and Fruit Tarts, Sorbet, Etc.

Whether you’re a fan of Prosecco or prefer a non-alcoholic sparkling wine, there are many desserts that provide the perfect flavor complement.

  • Fruit Tarts: The prosecco’s acidity makes a great match for fruit tarts. Top them off with fresh berries, lemon curd, or any other fruity filling. A light pairing that’s great for brunch!
  • Sorbet: Light and refreshing, lemon and orange sorbet make a nice complement to this light and crisp wine. The result? A sweet palate-cleansing treat, perfect for summer time.
  • Shortbread Cookies: The buttery, crumbly texture of shortbread cookies goes well with the bubbles in prosecco. Dip the cookies in chocolate for an extra-special after-meal treat.
  • Cheesecake: The texture of this decadent dessert balances well with the crispness and acidity of the wine.
  • Creme Brulee: This dessert’s creamy custard and caramelized sugar creates a lovely contrast with sparkling wine.
  • Macarons: These delicate, colorful French confections harmonize well with prosecco no matter which flavor you choose (recommended: raspberry, lemon, rose).
