Hydration Hacks: Creative Ways to Drink More Water

Hydration Hacks: Creative Ways to Drink More Water

We all know we need to drink more water. After all, proper hydration has been linked with better brain performance, digestive health, heart health, energy levels, and temperature regulation. But let’s face it: sometimes you just get sick of plain old water. Instead of turning to sugary sodas or juices, let’s talk about some creative ways to ingest more water.

Try These 5 Ways to Consume More Water

From infusing your water with fruit to hydrating with herbal teas, here are some creative ways to ingest more H2O.

Water Infusion

To make your water consumption more tasty and exciting, consider infusing your beverage with fruits, vegetables, and herbs. There are lots of combinations you can try that will guarantee deliciously drinkable water – without all the extra sugar, calories, or chemicals.

Try these flavor combinations:

  • Strawberry basil
  • Cucumber strawberry lime
  • Watermelon mint
  • Blueberry lavender
  • Rosemary grapefruit

First, clean and slice your chosen fruits and vegetables. Then fill a pitcher with ice and the fruit, followed by water. Let it steep for at least an hour, then enjoy. To speed up the flavor infusion, you can slightly crush up the fruits and vegetables, then strain before drinking.

Herbal Teas

You can achieve two goals with tea: drinking your recommended water allowances while increasing flavor – without added calories, sugar, and caffeine. The good thing about herbal teas is that they offer many other benefits besides hydration. For example:

  • Cinnamon, chamomile, and hibiscus teas promote healthy sleep.
  • Ginger and peppermint teas calm the stomach.
  • Lemon balm tea reduces cortisol levels without adding drowsiness.

While herbal teas offer the flavor you’re craving, try black and green tea for the polyphenols that protect your body from oxidative stress.

Seltzers and Sparkling Waters

Seltzers and sparkling water give you all the benefits of regular water but with an effervescent twist. Bubbly waters such as seltzers, mineral waters, and club sodas hydrate you, to be sure, but they also make an ideal transition beverage if you are trying to nix your soda or diet soda habit.

Gourmet Ice Cubes

Sometimes even the smallest touches can make a drink look fancier than it is. Take gourmet ice cubes, for example. You can infuse the cubes with any of the flavor mixes we outlined above for the infused water, such as strawberry basil or blueberry lavender. Chop them into small pieces, add them to the ice tray with water, freeze, and pop in your drink when done!

Flair

Our minds can play tricks on us sometimes. When we’re drinking water out of a glass or boring plastic water bottle, we may equate that to a boring experience overall. Motivate yourself to drink more by upping the flair factor. Pick up a colorful reusable water bottle in any size or type (straws make it more fun), and be sure to carry it around with you everywhere. Consider a water bottle that comes connected to an app where you can get reminders to drink water and track how much you’ve consumed each day.
