Triple Crown Cocktails: Recipes For Winners

And we’re off to the races! In honor of the Triple Crown races, known for fabulous outfits, the spirit of competition, and a wide variety of cocktails to enjoy while you cheer on the victors. While bourbon is the top choice among creators of cocktails, our list includes a variety that everyone can enjoy, even a non-alcoholic version! Spring is officially here, enjoy the warm weather, sit back and relax and enjoy the races!

Virgin Mint Julep (full recipe here):

There is no cocktail more synonymous with the Kentucky Derby than the mint julep. Traditionally made with mint and bourbon, the simple ingredients pack a big flavor. This non-alcoholic variety is just as satisfying as long as you use a quality ginger ale made with pure cane sugar and fresh ginger.

  • Water
  • Granulated sugar
  • Ginger Ale
  • Fresh mint leaves

Black-eyed Susan (full recipe here):

This cocktail is made to represent the blanket of black-eyed susans that drape the inner in the Preakness Stakes in Baltimore, Maryland. It’s made with a delicious mixture of fresh, fruity flavors as well as a combination of vodka, rum, and orange liqueur. Be ready to celebrate in style.

  • ¾ cup orange juice
  • ½ cup pineapple juice
  • 3 tablespoons vodka
  • 3 tablespoons light rum
  • 2 tablespoons orange liqueur
  • Crushed ice
  • Garnishes: lime slices, fresh cherries

Belmont Jewel (full recipe here):

The Belmont Jewel is the official drink of the Belmont Stakes which is the third iteration since the race began in 1868. Using bourbon as a base, the most common liquor choice for horse racing, combined with lemonade and pomegranate juice for a simple way to celebrate the season.

  • 1 1/2 ounces bourbon whiskey
  • 2 ounces lemonade
  • 1 ounce pomegranate juice
  • Garnish: lemon wedge, orange zest, or cherry

Kentucky Mule (full recipe here):

Another take on the mint julep, this Kentucky mule combines bourbon, mint, lime juice and is topped off with a high-quality ginger beer for a little kick! Great if you are looking to change things up for the season.

  • 2 ounces bourbon
  • 1/2 ounce lime juice, freshly squeezed
  • Ginger beer, to top
  • Garnish: mint sprig
